NAV CANADA, recently replaced the Instrument Landing System (ILS) serving runway 32 at Hay River as part of its national ILS Replacement Project.
The localizer is now offset 2.9 degrees from centerline. The installation of the localiser antenna array to a location off-set from the runway centre-line was necessary to eliminate the requirement to remove the antenna array every spring for due to the build-up of ice and concern that the antenna would be damaged or destroyed. The new location allows for year round ILS availability. As a result of the 2.9 degree off-set, the minima have been increased to 250 feet and ¾ mile.
